Jackson stepped onstage, took one look at the adult audience and ran for cover, even though he knew the consequences would be a lesson in futility.

Jackson stepped onstage, took one look at the huge wet spot on his trousers caused from a spilled drink, and ran and grabbed a potted plant to hold in front of himself, even though he knew the consequences would be humiliating.

(I think I should at least get points for having an incredibly long run-on sentence. :)

Jackson stepped onstage, took one look at the stunt double for his co-star - who was his ex-wife's new husband - and ran back offstage and out the door, booking it for all his life was worth, even though he knew the consequences would be that he'd be back to playing bit-parts.

- yikes, I think I topped Delirious' run-on sentence :0+

Jackson stepped onstage, took one look at the crowd, donned a black beret and ran to the highest platform with arm raised high and fist closed tight, even though he knew the consequences would be possible arrest and or death in 1968.

20 year old Samuel L. Jackson was an usher at the funeral of MLK Jr. He was deeply involved in the civil rights movement for the Afro Americans. An important part of American history.

OK I think that's long enough, and this round goes to Valorosa for the history lesson!
