The Hollow Men by TS Elliot

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

One of my favorite poems. :)

i don't know? chickens? :)

the etymology of the word peckish might be interesting... "bull in a china shop" certainly was. Here's what I found, at least insofar as it goes in the States:

this was possibly the first bull in a china shop

and this was possibly the second known bull in an *actual* china shop, tho the expression was already in use by then

I don't have too much free time, really. I just like to learn things... er, procrastinate... er, learn things... :)

Well, this is a really tough one. There are some great answers. Okay...

I have narrowed it down to Hobbits (Sara) and Winnie the Pooh (Susan). As much as I love Hobbits and it is almost painful not to pick them, I am going to have to pick Winnie the Pooh. I think it was he who first introduced me to this particular use of this word... Congrats, Susan!

Thanks Katherine,

Winnie the Pooh has been a favourite of mine ever since I had kids.
