since there has been decline in attendance, perhaps we can talk for a spell about it? there's a few ways, IMO, we could go:

-we could take the IC approach. keep things as is, pretend we don't notice, and blame everyone else for being too blind and evil to play.

-invite more people to play

-change up the rules a little (there are several variations to the game)

-stop playing and tally the results

thoughts?

Hey I'm open to whatever. I was only kidding on the last thread about staying until I'm the only one left. ;-)

Yes, let's discuss.

As long as there are two are more gathered it's still a party! What's your idea to change it up a bit Jon?

Cheques

I don't remember where I put mine.

Never use them anymore.

A new game may in in order ...

Brilliant word Erin.

lol

Ok well I'm going to call this one...then maybe we can move on to a new evolution of this game, or 'something else'? ;-)

This is a really hard round, because they are all obsolete...but I'm going to go with...

Drumroll...

Sue with the 486 running Win95!

Yay! Whoo! Throw confetti and spray the champagne!

LOL Your partying seems somewhat forced, Erin ;)

thank you for this award. I'd like to thank my dog.

Well, shall we go another round, or will I wait a bit to see what we can come up with?

Good question, Sue. Jon started it, so maybe we should ask him to be a decision maker.

Anyone else have an opinion?

how about we let it chill for a bit and talk?

i absolutely LOVE this game. and i'm glad you all have been willing to play with me for the past 6 months. can you believe we've been playing for 6 months? my ass is a little sore, so i could certainly use the chance to get up, stretch my legs, go pee, and have a smoke. but i am more than down for continuing if anyone else is. it can be a ridiculous good time if the mood is right, and i hope more than a few of you have had some fun along the way as well.

OK. i found a page online that gives an overview of the expanded rules and variations.

and these are just a few. WE can do anything we want, that's the beauty of it. one of our favorite variations at home is for the judge to give a "scenerio" along with their adjective.

which brings us to one of the challenges of a purely imaginary game. we don't actually have any cards to "turn over." which takes away some of the "out of left field" aspect of having to play whatever you were dealt.

is it possible for us, in this medium we have available, to have the ability to be "dealt" cards in some fashion? just wondering. i really have NO skill when it comes to web design to create such a possibility. i don't suppose anyone here DOES have that kind of skill?

just a few brainstorms to start with... thoughts?

Wow six months! Really! I wish I could be committed to go to the gym for six months...I'd have a lot more to show for it.

But I do love playing A2A and hanging out with you guys so I do have some freinds to show for it. I love words and the fact that we get to pull them out of our head rather than a box when we play online. I love to see what unfolds. I get so lonely all by myself at work so I like having this game to "sit in" on during the day.

I like it the way it's going because if we change it up then people can't just pop in to play and know what to do.

Maybe Jon you need to provide us with some more of your antics to keep the party alive. You know like dancing with the lamp shade on your head or something.

Anonymous said...

"you want antics? i can get you antics. there are ways, believe me. you don't want to know about 'em. i can get you some antics by 3 o'clock today if you want..." :-)

i'm down for whatever. i think several who WERE playing have moved on. and there are plenty who MIGHT BE interested, but aren't aware of it. perhaps an announcement on Rahab's to let others know a new game is going to start?

and maybe tapping anyone else we know who may be interested?

Ruth said...

Bring on the antics - along as it's nice and clean. It's only 1:18 my time.

Yes a little advertising can go a long way - especially if it's a welcoming invitation.

What about an invitation right on this web site welcoming people to join in?

Anonymous said...

well i've got to get zaavan off the bus here in a couple of seconds and then run errands with him. i just finished throwing up an announcement on rahab's. perhaps someone else could get a welcome together here?

I don't normally like 'word' games, much preferring 'number' games. However I really like this game. The great variety of the answers never ceases to surprise me so I hope we can go again, after a little break.

how about we reconvene after the new year?

Erin said...

On no, that's too long ;-) I was thinking maybe in two weeks. But I guess there have to be enough people to play, huh?

And I like this game too, but I'm totally willing to play something else...because it's just fun hanging out with you guys.

Although, sfince this thread isn't getting a lot of discussion, maybe that's indicative of something...

i just thought if would be good to break for the next couple of months, what with the craziness of the holidays for most. then we can come back with freshness.

it was just a thought.

we could always play something else... (heh, heh) if people want. if so, what? any ideas on how to fascilitate another game in the blog realm?

Delirious said...

We could do something like post a question and let everyone answer. Like, "What was your most embarassing moment?". The person asking the question would pick their favorite answer, and the person who won could choose the next question. Just an idea. :)

Erin said...

I like Delirious' idea...or maybe just the best thing is to flip A2A around and do nouns vs. adjectives. I can't think of another game that will work as well in this format. I thought about trivia, but people could just look up the answers.

I think we should take a poll, see how many are up for continuing right away, and how many would like to wait.

Susan Barnes said...

I like the idea of going with nouns and as Erin said the game works so well in this format.

Mike said...

I also like the idea of asking questions and getting answers. I can go either way on continuing or taking a break.

It seems like people need a break though.

Sue said...

I like both of those ideas. I'm happy to continue playing on in a few weeks' time if everyone else is.

Anonymous said...

saying that we like all the options doesn't help us reach a decision people...

i hope that didn't sound rude. didn't mean it to. more dry sarcastic than anything. :-)

if you kind folk want to continue sooner, feel free. i know i am going to need the break however.

Erin said...

You make a good point Jon. I'm not sure anyone feels qualified to make a unilateral decision here. What should we do?

We could just continue with nouns this time, and if people want to play they can. But then again, I don't want those who would like a break to feel left out.

A quandary. I'm willing to go with whoever makes a decision. See I'm not difficult. ;-)

Flip a coin, Jon.

Ruth said...

I say lets just keep going. In fact, whoever wins the round can lead off with whatever they want. A noun. An adjective. A probing question. A deep tought. A light hearted thought. Whatever they come up with. Then they get to judge who wins. We can call it APPLES2APPLES AND THEN SOME!
If it peters out fine but if we shut it down, we just might lose momentum for good right? So who's up next? Sue? Sue? where are you?

And Jon, you are welcome to take a break. Just come on back sometime ya hear.

Susan Barnes said...

APPLES2APPLES AND THEN SOME sounds good to me.

Sue said...

Ruth, that's a great idea. A little bit of everything.

Okay, it's my turn, isn't it. Give me a few hours, I'm having stagefright :)

Erin said...

I'll go with that!

Anonymous said...

apples to apples and then some sounds wonderful. in fact, it's kind of how we play it at our gatherings. the judge can do whatever and change whatever they wish. "when its your turn, its YOUR turn." :-)

cheers. enjoy the game.
